Back in the mid-sixties, Hermès introduced a special tie on the occasion of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The ties were not sold in their stores, they were given to the entrants during races. The original design was kept until 1971. That year a new design appeared, followed by another one in 1974. As years passed, fresh designs were released more frequently. Whilst still not available in their regular shops, a limited number of ties could be purchased from a pop-up store Hermès ran in the Le Mans paddock during the 24 Hours event. In 1988 a new pattern started. A same design was kept for two or three years but the colour combination changed every year. Things evolved again in 2000. From then on, the design was not only renewed every year but was offered simultaneously in two (2000-2006), and sometimes in three, four and even five (2009), colour choices! 2009 was the last year Hermès made a Le Mans tie, ending a period of more than 40 years of homage to the greatest race in the world. During that period, the motifs varied and included cars in different configurations or graphic plays with the number 24.
